The Footlight Bedside Drawers

On brass, British timber and the subtle theatre of the bedside. A new handmade piece from our East Yorkshire workshop; designed for the edge of sleep.

There is a particular kind of attention that goes into designing for the bedside. It is furniture that occupies the edge of sleep, the last thing you reach for at night, the first surface you encounter in the morning. It does not need to announce itself. It needs to be there.

English walnut & ash

The Footlight takes its name from the strip of lights that line the front edge of a theatre stage, historically, illuminating performers from below, casting a warm and particular kind of glow. Here, the name speaks to the role of the piece: a stage for timber, a setting in which the grain and warmth of solid wood can quietly perform.

Hand turned feet

Three drawers, hand-built in solid timber, sit on four slender hand turned legs. The proportions are unhurried. The bespoke brass finger pulls, developed specifically for this piece are small in scale but considered in detail. Brass has been used in cabinet-making for centuries precisely because of this quality; a material that ages well, that develops character, that asks for nothing but repays attention.

Brass and timber details

The Footlight Bedside Drawers are available in a range of British timbers, natural oak, ebonised oak, medium stained oak, walnut, and ash with English walnut; each with its own mood and weight. These pieces are made to order with a 10-12 week lead time and can be adapted in dimension to suit your space.
