The contrast between materials is deliberate. Solid timber, oak or American black walnut, finished in hardwax oil, sits on solid 'buttered' brass or pedestals, lifting the piece and reducing its visual weight. A simple move, but one that defines the character of the bench.

Originally designed for our first permanent public art commission at Alfred Muse in the Heal's Building, London, the piece had to hold up in a demanding public setting. That requirement still underpins it. Durable, but also adaptable — fully customisable in size, timber and form, and built to last.

Like much of our work, it begins with process and material, letting those decisions shape the outcome rather than overworking the design.
